Updated safety standard EN 1004-1

New standard EN 1004-1:2020 – what has changed?

This new standard replaces the existing standard EN 1004:2004 as of November 2021.
The dates of endorsement and implementation of the standard depend on the local authorities of the EU Member States.

As a manufacturer, we have to provide materials and solutions to the latest standards!
Changes to EN 1004 will also affect users.

More significant changes:

  • The maximum distance from the ground to the first platform is now 3.40 m.
  • If an auxiliary platform (height up to 60 cm) is used, the first platform can be up to 4 m high.
  • Two working or intermediate platforms may be a maximum of 2.25 m apart (instead of 4.20 m).

The standard requires that workers must be protected on all sides when scaffolding is being installed and removed.
This means that hip and handrails must be in place before stepping onto the platform.

Custers solutions for safe working:

  • Mobile Guard – a handrail installed 3 m above the platform.
After the next platform is installed, knee-high handrails are installed while sitting in the open hatch.
This system moves with the work process and allows the use of conventional diagonals.
  • Safe Guard – permanently installed handrails that partially replace
the traditional diagonal and horizontal and reduce the number of platforms needed in 1.3 m frames.

This ensures maximum safety and stability at any working height.
